Congratulations to Shakib Al Hasan

This is one of the great moments for Bangladeshi cricket as Shakib Al Hasan has topped the list of ICC’s Top 10 ODI all-rounders. Bangladeshi crickets have made their ways in the ICC top ten list for both ODI and Test in past but this is the first time someone is ranked number 1.

As you can see (screenshot taken from ICC’s official website) Shakib is ranked with 380 points followed by New Zealand’s Jacob Oram and England’s Andrew Flintoff. Shakib also ranks 10 in the list of top 10 Test all-rounders, which is not bad at all. He is younge and performing really well for Bangladesh. I really hope that he keeps up the performance and do the best things for Bangladesh cricket team. I wish him all the best and congratulations.

Photography

It has been a long time since I posted something. Anyway, for past few months I have grown a new hobby – photography. Last year when I went to Bangladesh, I bought a Fujifilm FinePix S9600 SLR camera. I have not had too many chances to use it until I went to Québec City. I enjoyed shooting photos there, but the picture quality wasn’t that good. Since then I started reading the manual whenever I could; try the tricks and tips on the camera.

My creation

I am still learning and sharing my photos on different groups on Flickr. My photo gallery is http://www.flickr.com/photos/ehsanul/ and I have joined few groups related to Bangladeshi photographers. These days people are making comments on my pictures, tagging my pictures as their favorite etc. These are really inspiring.

Trying to learn more from the pictures everyone uploads. It is nice to see how people openly share their creativity with the world and the power of internet has brought us closer. We can now share, learn, teach and do everything, which was probably impossible about 15 or 20 years ago.

Photography has become my hobby, and feel that it will become my passion very soon. Whenever I go out, I try to take my camera with me. I also have a point and shoot camera so that I can carry it wherever I am going. But overall the experience is cool. When I take a good shoot, it makes me feel great. Sometimes one or two pictures turn out good among ten or fifteen shots I take. Even that feels great, because one good shot pays off.

Voice Support with Yahoo! Messenger for Mac

After I bought my Mac Book Pro in March, one of the software I installed instantly was Yahoo! Messenger. I use it to talk to my parents everyday, who are in Bangladesh at the moment. Besides that fact, most of my open source community friends are on Yahoo! Messenger, not to mention few of my friends also.

When I installed YIM, it was kind of disappointing. It didn’t have the voice support and, therefore, I had carry my office laptop everyday with me. As Tithi uses her laptop to work on her course works, I needed to bring in office laptop so that I could talk to my parents back home. I used to constantly check Yahoo! Messenger’s blog and kept my eyes open. Finally about couple of weeks ago I found out that they have released a new build for Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 (BETA). I (literally) started jumping in joy and finally when I talked to my parents later that night, I was really happy. Hope YIM will port all the other fancy features available on Windows version, but I guess I can live with the features offered on the current version. Thank you guys (YIM Team) for making it happen. Keep up the good work.

Change of Color

Change of color it is. Suddenly this afternoon when I was watching TV, this idea came in to mind. At first I did not want to use Orange but later the new combination looked pretty good to me.

I had some photos of a dress exhibition where I found the design on top of the page. Took that part did some quick editing in Photoshop and changed the style of my name there as well. Over all that’s pretty much the change I have made on the site. Yes, the color as well. This design will stay for sometime until I get some other idea.

Although I worked on the site’s look suddenly, I wanted to make the change because few of things in my life is about to change. I’m moving to Canada by end of this month [August]. I’ve received Permanent Residency in Canada couple of weeks ago. I hope to get a good life there. Good internet connection!! Woohooo!! LoL [..Well BD's net is now Ok than before..] I’m not sure if I would want to look into business opportunities or look for a job. But hope to do it right, what ever I do.

I’m surely going to miss Bangladesh and everything around me here. Change of color on my site reflects to the change of color in my life. I’m a little excited about moving to Canada. I have a strong desire to come back to Bangladesh. Part of that desire is to start my own company, which will allow me to visit Bangladesh
every year at least. I hope I can do that.

I am really glad to have friends that I’ve made over past two years. All of you have inspired me one way or another. I’ve also met people who know a lot but do not have any decent manner, which is very sad. I really believe these people can take Bangladesh a long way only if they change their attitude.

My special thanks Munaz, Rahman, Hasin Bhai, Shimul, Rupom, and Rafiq Bhai. Thanks also go to Arefin and Nizar who helped me and guided me through lots of things. This will be really bad if I do not mention one name in particular. This guy taught me lot of things. After I left BOL job, I met this guy who guided me, showed me ways to learn many things. Because of the knowledge that I gathered (probably 4% of his knowledge) from him I can now stand up tall among the Bangladeshi PHP Programmers. This special Thanks goes to Mr M. J. Kabir, CEO of Evoknow and my x-Employer.

Anyway I may have missed out few names above. So thank you all!

Thanks and God Bless!!
